The actors in X-Men:The Last Stand have sworn up and down that this is the last one, so you can imagine my surprise at the Da Vinci-esque cliffhanger that the movie leaves us with. All in all, the film is the most visually stunning and impressive of the three, and at a mere 1 hour 44 minutes, it definately leaves the audience longing for more.Â
I guess that’s the point. There are many loose ends that are only marginally tied up at the end of the movie, with the final Ian-McKellan-in-the-park scene whetting the appetite for a movie that is apparently never going to be made.Â
Some things you won’t see in X3:
1.Significant explanation of Logan’s infatuation with Gene.
2.Gambit
3.A Sentinal–wait, that’s not entirely true.
4.Cyclops kicking butt.
5.Beast as a true intellectual.
Some things you will see in X3.
1.The most dazzling method of crossing from Manhattan to Alcatraz I’ve ever seen.
2.Ice-Man’s ice-body.
3.Mystique without all the body paint.
4.Lot’s of great Wolverine kills.
So, if you have a bone of adolescent male in your body, you will be titilated and thrilled by this movie. If you don’t, maybe you could just watch Norma Rae at home on video. Whatever you do, don’t leave the movie once the credits roll, you won’t be sorry. X4, Anyone?

Ok, so here’s a bit of an improvement…I’m not sure if I’m quite sold on this theme yet….Thoughts?

I typically don’t like to blog about work for a variety of reasons. I received this email from a parent at the end of this school year, and I don’t quite know how to take it. Is it criticism, or a compliment? Btw…it is not an infringement of privacy for me to post this email on my blog. Because it was emailed to the Santa Rosa County Exchange Server, it is a matter of public record. I have omitted the names, though, because they are irrelevant. I am just wondering how I should take this.Â
Mr. Killian,
In discussion with several 10th grade students and other more senior students who have taken English II in prior years, it seems that your grading standards are significantly more stringent than your fellow teachers.  Grading criteria and standards should be equivalent throughout the English department. It is unfair that students in your class have to do more than other students taking the same class. We are not saying that our son is a rocket scientist (he potentially could be if he studied harder), but from what we have heard, he probably could have obtained a higher grade in one of the other classes with another teacher, with the same level of work he did in your class.  There should be a level playing field for all students and that does not seem to be the case in English II. From what we have heard, students are and will actually try to avoid being in your class, because of the stringent standards you have set. It seems to us as parents that your standards are more suitable for ‘Honors” type classes.
It isn’t fair that a student can get a “A or B” a specific assignment in another English II class, but in your class it would be a “C” or a low “B”. Â
We do feel that you are an excellent teacher and are thoroughly dedicated to having students learn and understand English. At the same time we feel that there is a disparity between your class standards and that of the other teachers.
So, thoughts?

I don’t know if this story is true, but it’s a hoot. Bad theology can kill you!!
A Little Rock woman was killed yesterday after leaping through her moving car’s sunroof during an incident best described as a ‘mistaken rapture’ by dozens of eye-witnesses. Thirteen other people were injured after a twenty car pile-up resulted from people trying to avoid hitting the woman, who was apparently convinced the rapture was occuring when she thought she saw twelve people floating into the air, and then passed a man on the side of the road who she believed was Jesus. “She started screaming ‘He’s back! He’s back!’ and climbed out through the sun roof and jumped off the roof of the car.” said Everet Williams, husband of 28 year-old Georgeann Williams who was pronounced dead at the scene. I was slowing down but she wouldn’t wait until I stopped,” Williams said. “She thought the rapture was happening and was convinced that Jesus was gonna lift her up into the sky,” he went on to say.
“This is the strangest thing I’ve seen since I have been on the force,” said Paul Mason, first officer on the scene. Madison questioned the man who looked like Jesus and discovered that he was on the way to a costume party, when the tarp covering the bed of his pickup truck came loose and released twelve blow-up sex dolls filled with helium, which then floated into the sky. Ernie Jenkins, 32, of Fort Smith, who has been told several times by his friends he looks like Jesus, pulled over and lifted his arms into the air in frustration saying ‘Come back, come back,’ just as the Williams car passed him. Mrs. Williams was sure it was Jesus lifting people up into heaven as they drove by Jenkins. When asked for comments about the twelve sex dolls, Jenkins replied ‘This is all just too weird for me. I never expected anything like this to happen.’”

Hard to Get
You who live in heaven
Hear the prayers of those of us who live on earth
Who are afraid of being left by those we love
And who get hardened by the hurt
Do you remember when You lived down here where we all scrape
To find the faith to ask for daily bread
Did You forget about us after You had flown away
Well I memorized every word You said
Still I’m so scared, I’m holding my breath
While You’re up there just playing hard to get
You who live in radiance
Hear the prayers of those of us who live in skin
We have a love that’s not as patient as Yours was
Still we do love now and then
Did You ever know loneliness
Did You ever know need
Do You remember just how long a night can get?
When You were barely holding on
And Your friends fall asleep
And don’t see the blood that’s running in Your sweat
Will those who mourn be left uncomforted
While You’re up there just playing hard to get?
And I know you bore our sorrows
And I know you feel our pain
And I know it would not hurt any less
Even if it could be explained
And I know that I am only lashing out
At the One who loves me most
And after I figured this, somehow All I really need to know
Is if You who live in eternity
Hear the prayers of those of us who live in time
We can’t see what’s ahead
And we can not get free of what we’ve left behind
I’m reeling from these voices that keep screaming in my ears
All the words of shame and doubt, blame and regret I can’t see how
You’re leading me unless
You’ve led me here
Where I’m lost enough to let myself be led
And so You’ve been here all along I guess
It’s just Your ways and You are just plain hard to get.
